I believe that the deep, theoretical work of independent researchers, such as the master's and doctoral theses of young scientists, has enormous potential to benefit society. However, most of this work remains unsupported unless profit-seeking companies adopt it. This creates systemic bias, and promising ideas are often abandoned or redirected to serve narrow commercial interests rather than the broader public good. I would like to see governments adopt policies such as universal basic income (UBI), or visionary individuals support independent work that aligns with their values. Even modest investment in independent researchers helps to ease financial constraints and can unlock ideas that industries focused on short-term profits will never realise.
